One-on-one attention  

Your dog is not “just another dog” in our kennel.  We keep our dog numbers down in order to assure adequate individual attention for each dog that comes to our kennel for training. 

Our dogs get regular exercise and birdwork

We do a lot of roading the dogs with an ATV which is great for conditioning and dogs run loose in a birdfield setting to find birds.  As we get closer to the fall field trial and hunting seasons we start running the trial dogs off of horseback and up the conditioning for the hunting dogs and do longer training sessions on foot.

 Juvenile dogs

We generally don’t take dogs younger than 6 months of age into longer term training but will do introductory sessions with younger puppies to expose them to birds. Young dogs need to have fun and get excited about birds. Dogs are exposed to pigeons and gamebirds and are encouraged to be independent and develop hunting and pointing instincts.

Steady to wing and shot

Steve steadies hunting and field trial dogs to wing and shot most of the year, except for mid-November and December when he goes to trials in Texas and our Nationals.

Wild birds

We will be doing a short wild bird training/hunting trip to Arizona the last half of December, shorly after Nationals and then start prepping for the Spring trials which start the end of January.

Lessons

We will do individual, hour-plus lessons but strongly recommend the dog(s) stays with us for a period of time for best benefit.

Regular Rates

  • Introductory session: $30
  • Hourly training sessions (me working dog or helping you work the dog) $50
  • Broke dog training: $500 per month training and care (including food)
  • Derby/puppy training: $450 per month training and care (including food)

Special Services

  • Dogs kept in the house (not kennel): $150 additional per month (limited number of spots)
  • Boarding: $15 a day, $20 if you want the dog roaded
  • Extras: feeding special diets/raw etc. are available for additional charge

Birds

  • No charge for pigeons
  • Gamebirds killed for a dog in training are billed at our cost
  • The cost of gamebirds used in training (callback quail, chukars) are divided evenly among each dog training on them

Travel

  • The cost of travel to events (field trials/hunt tests/training trips) is based on mileage and divided evenly among participating dogs.
